Botánicvs Imperialis. Sculpting a wood I

Do a tree is something that all modeller thinks at least once in his livetime. We couldn´t avoid that, so we decided to do one. A tree is something that we could use always to play Warhammer Fantasy, Mordheim (Empire in flames) and 1650 A capa y espada.

It was a time before this one! Too many years ago, we did three palm tree. This time we would like improve and learn, so we will be careful.

A wire tree is something that everybody should try to do it!

First we seach tutorials about how to do a tree for wargames. We could find alots examples in scenery books, forums and on the internet. With our mind full of ideas we started!

We used wire 19mm in width to do the main body. We took a couple of wires and twisted, then we put all togehter. One of the ends will be the roots and the other the branches.

Finally we put whithe glue over all wires.

We covered all wire tree with Das clay (air dry). We must to sculpt while the clay is wet, but it is not a problem because we could add water when we need. Well, we started to sculpt… or learned to sculpt (our first time!).

We drew main lines from top to the botton of the trunk. Then we add details and fine lines.

A Games Workshop tree was our reference.

Work with reference is so importat to us.

Finally, the truck looks nearly a trunk.

We did brunches as trunk but much thin, very much. We covered  wire with Das before sculpt.

Besides we tried with differents finisthed, finally we chose the first one!

It was great have learned to sculpt a tree with wire. It is something that we commended to all modeller.

We hope finish soon, we could no wait to use that to play our  Warhammer Fantasy, Mordheim (Empire in flames) and 1650 A capa y espada games.
